If you have been reading this blog in 2025, you may have gained a better understanding of a few things about money and how it relates to your investment portfolios. It's that time of year for many students and professors (shout out to my recently retired professor brother!) to break out the books and get back to learning! You may also realize from this blog that I am a believer that the Bible contains a lot of what we should know about life. Thus, as Proverbs 4:7 tells us in the statement above, it's important to know things! And know them at all cost!
This of course relates to gaining wisdom in a spiritual sense. Yet, it also translates to making good decisions in all aspects of life. From the standpoint of your investment portfolio, EWM is here to be your guide and to relate where our portfolio wisdom is currently working for you based on some recent changes to what you own.
First, we have been talking about taking on less risk across the board. This means we have moved towards a more defensive stance heading into the next few months of what is normally a volatile time for equities. ("Defense wins games")
Next, we have been allocating defensively towards healthcare, consumer staples, real estate and energy along with specific bonds in the form of ETFs. We have also been (and plan to continue) buying/building certain positions over the next few months. Also, specific 'bottom up' individual stocks that have been attractive remain in the mix while we have a good portion in cash to continue to stay active with portfolios through year end.
Last, we are looking at any decline as an opportunity and not any sort of longer term downturn. Though the markets and portfolios have performed favorably after some rough spots in 2025, we don't think the game is over yet.
As Proverbs also states in Ch 9:10, "Fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom", we believe having a bit of reverence is always important in life. Thus, we will be patient and aware of the market twists and turns ahead and work to help you through any turmoil with a little bit of our portfolio wisdom. As always, we are here to assist you in gaining more understanding of what you own. Use us to help you gain your own portfolio wisdom!
