Time for Rest: Managing Market Volatility over the Summer Months

We are made to be durable - body and mind - yet we all need to take a break! With summer ahead and vacation days planned, it speaks to the part of our lives that we all need... REST!
The stock market has continued its record pace and is currently sitting near all-time highs. You might believe that we are in the all clear, yet it too, needs a rest! A quick look under the hood shows that not much has changed in the market internals since the nearly 10% correction that took place in March. "Chasing gains" at this point is not our strategy. The semiconductor area has been the main lead (think "AI") but presents high volatility, especially over the summer months where trading volume can vary.
Our goal for managing portfolios over the next few months is to minimize the impact of volatility. We are following the 10-year treasury rate closely and believe it is closer to a near term peak, which may dictate the equity direction towards year end. In the meantime, we are looking to build defensive positions during the historically weak month of June.
Rest is good. And we all need it. I wish you rest over the summer and leave the investing work to the EWM team. May you find rest as commanded by Jesus himself in Matthew 11:25 as shown below the caption above!
